Question: I am currently taking Fareston (rather than Tamoxifen) but have been able to find out very little about it, other than that it has the addition of a chlorine atom. Could you please steer me in the right direction for more information. I have been taking this drug for approximately three months, and I am one constant hot flash. Thanks, in advance. MO

Answer: Fareston(toremifene citrate)is a non-steroidal antiestrogen(like Tamoxifen). There has been three head to head studies between this drug and Tamoxifen. These were done in North America, Europe and the Nordic areas. Two of the three studies show similar results between the two drugs. One study showed a longer time to progression of disease for Tamoxifen. They appear very similar in terms of side effects and disease effectiveness at this point.
