Question: I received a steroid injection (Kenalog??) for an asthma incident. There is now subcutaneous atrophy of the right buttock and I am wondering if this was the fault of the doctor's injection or the drug itself? Do you know the manufacturer of this drug? The doctor prescribed Retin-A for the discoloration, is there anything else that might help?

Answer: This is due to the drug. Kenalog is the brand name for triamcinolone acetonide and is made by Squibb. But, this is not a defect in the medication and is a possible side effect of any of the injectable(occasionally surface preparations also)steroids. A plastic surgeon can usually fix this type of deficit by injecting colloid. They can also address the change in color.
