These comments are made for the purpose of discussion and should NOT be used as recommendations for or against therapies or other treatments. An individual patient is always advised to consult their own physician.

Question: Is 'NASACORT AQ' (triamcinolone acetonide) safe for a 4 1/2 year old with a ligering cough and nasal congestion?

Answer: Probably, but it really only works well for allergic rhinitis, not infections.

Nasacort and Children [posted 1/14/99]
Question: My 6 year old son suffers from nasal congestion due to allergies. His pediatrician prescribed Nasacort AQ nasal spray (triamcinolone acetonide). He prescribed one 55 mcg actuation in each nostril once a day. The insert indicated that testing had not been performed on children under 12. Is this medication safe for my 6 year old?

Answer: Probably, although there is no testing per se. The nasal steroids are absorbed very poorly and occasional patients will have problems, nut most have no side effects short or long term.
