Question: Is 'NASACORT AQ' (triamcinolone acetonide) safe for a 4 1/2 year old with a ligering cough and nasal congestion?
Answer: Probably, but it really only works well for allergic rhinitis, not infections.

Question: My 6 year old son suffers from nasal congestion due to allergies. His
pediatrician prescribed Nasacort AQ nasal spray (triamcinolone acetonide). He prescribed
one 55 mcg actuation in each nostril once a day. The insert indicated that testing had not
been performed on children under 12. Is this medication safe for my 6 year old?
Answer: Probably, although there is no testing per se. The nasal
steroids are absorbed very poorly and occasional patients will have problems, nut most
have no side effects short or long term.
