Reactions of OTC medications [posted 1/12/99]
Question: I recently contracted a very bad cold, and I am always confused on which remedies are suitable for me. I am taking Carbamazapine 800 mg/day. For my cold I have been taking Robitussin CF and Benadryl Allergy/Sinus Headache. Are these medications OK, and what do I need to look for on a label that will not conflict with my medication?

Answer: These shouldn't be a problem.

OTC Medication Availability in Europe
Question: I am planning a trip to Europe and would like to know if one is able to obtain medications there without prescriptions as required in the United States.

Answer: Depends on the medication, but, generally not.

OTC Advice
Question: A 36 year old male comes into the pharmacy that I work at and has a sprained knee, which is swollen, he is currently taking Dyazide for his blood pressure but he is a heavy, very heavy drinker-he asked what he could take for his pain and inflammation in the way of an OTC drug--what would you prescribe? The alcohol problem worried me and my best guess was to prescribe a topical analgesic-what would you have prescribed?

Answer: Probably the same.
