These comments are made for the purpose of discussion and should NOT be used as recommendations for or against therapies or other treatments. An individual patient is always advised to consult their own physician.

Synalar [posted 7/27/98]
Question: Years ago, my mother was given a sample of fading cream of some sort called Synalar. I used the product and within 2-4 days I saw tremendous results. Can you tell me if this drug is on the market? Is it over the counter or a prescription?

Answer: Synalar is a topical steroid called fluocinolone acetonide. Available by prescription only. Similar products are available over the counter in steroid creams and ointments. Ask your local pharmacist for 1% hydrocortisone. Itís not as strong, but it doesn't need a prescription.
