Bactrim
Question: Bactrim is being taken by my husband for a bladder infection. He is a 6-7 quad....my question is....does bactrim cause severe leg spasm? He is experiencing a lot of violent leg spasms ever since starting this medication. What could be causing this reaction?

Answer: Not a usual problem; but, I have had one patient who experienced muscle cramps on bactrim. Try a different drug not in the sulfa family. However, many quads will experience muscle spasms, so this may have nothing to do with the Bactrim. Usually treatment with an antispasmodic will help; but, they can be really disabling.
