Candida [posted 7/23/98]
Question: I would like to know if there is a definitive test to diagnose this condition? My niece has been treated for Candida for some time now, but still appears to suffer. Could you also tell what symptoms would show in someone with a candida infection? How can you eradicate Candida from your system? I would really appreciate a response to this question.

Answer: I don't think the syndrome exists personally. Candida exists everywhere in the environment, consequently every single human is exposed and has candida living in their body. Actually, it is part of a dynamic balance between different bacteria and yeasts that exist in our mouth, GI tract and vagina. It is convenient to cite Candida as the cause for global problems. However, I have never seen a patient cured by treatment. Odd, since the doctors doing this generally makes tons of money and have loyal returning patients. Generally, if treatment does not improve the "disease" patients will not return. Many of these unfortunate patients have something going on. I don't know if it is Chronic Fatigue, Environmental Allergies, or unknown. I think the Candida Syndrome does not exist. I understand that many patients passionately believe that it does and that I will receive many irate notes, but that is my opinion.
