Chewable tablets

Question: My 3 year old occasionally spits out liquid medicine. The chewable tablets seem to work better because they can be gathered and re-taken if spit out. Would the chewable form of medicine constitute a medical necessity, since with antibiotics, it is necessary to take a ten day treatment?

Answer: This would depend on your insurance company’s rules. Check with them concerning the rules for medical necessity. Usually, since chewable tablets are similarly priced, they probably would not mind.
