General Information
Question: What advice should be given to a young female patient who is prescribed cyclophosphamide. She would like to have children in the future?

Answer: Cyclophosphamide can lead to sterility depending on the person and the dosage. The amount of time that the drug is given also has an effect as does the patients age. If the drug will be given for an extended time at high doses, many physicians recommend that eggs be harvested and frozen to ensure future fertility. This is expensive and may not be necessary; but, is the only sure protection.
