Daypro and Alcohol [posted 7/16/98]
Question: My doctor says that drinking alcohol (wine, beer) while taking daypro will not hurt me. Is that true?

Answer: Both can induce/cause gastritis or inflammation of the stomach. In general, judicious used of alcohol with Daypro would probably be ok if you are not prone to gastritis with alcohol. Excessive use of alcohol (more than 2 drinks at once) should be avoided.

Daypro
Question: I was recently prescribed Daypro 600 mg by my family doctor for neck and shoulder inflammation. I would like some information on the drug and have been unsuccessful in obtaining it. If you could please send me some information on Daypro I would appreciate it very much.

Answer: Daypro(oxaproxin) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory made by Searle Co. It does not seem to be clinically different from most of the other NSAIDS (like Motrin, Aleve, Indocin, etc.). It is supposed to have less GI toxicity, but I haven't been overly impressed with this characteristic. Like the other cousins, it has mainly GI toxicity, nausea, gastritis, diarrhea, and ulcers.
