Dostinex [posted 8/14/98]
Question: I was looking for information on the drug Dostinex or Cabergoline. It is a dopamine agonist used to treat high levels of prolactin in the body. I believe it is a relative new drug. Any information, especially on the effects while pregnant would be helpful.

Answer: Dostinex is made by Pharmacia & Upjohn. It is a dopamine receptor agonist used to treat prolactin secreting pituitary adenomas. Side effects include nausea, constipation, abdominal pain, vomiting, headache, vertigo, fatigue, somnolence, and occasional breast pain. It has no obvious long term side effects that differ from the above. It is usually started at small doses to get used to the GI side effects and the headaches.

Dostinex and Pregnancy [posted 8/5/98]
Question: I am currently taking Dostinex for a pituitary tumor (5 mm). My level has gone from 76 to 17.5 in just 6 weeks. My husband and I want to have a child soon. I have heard various reports on the safety of getting pregnant while on Dostinex. Do you have any information on this?

Answer: Seems without major problems, some couples cannot get pregnant without it.
