Foot Fungus
Question:I have an elderly friend that has vertigo. Been to about every kind of doctor. Can't get relief. No eye problems tumors nerve problems. Any suggestions?????

Answer:Greisofulvin is a drug which has been available for many years. It is used in treating fungal diseases and is relatively effective. It is also cheap. There are newer and easier to use drugs for treating fungal infections in nails. They all will have potential liver problems which is the biggest limitation in clinical practice. Toe nails will take 6-12 months to clear fungal infections, finger nails 3-6. Other problems such as diabetes mellitus will lengthen this time. Other than cosmetic reasons, fungal infections of the nails are no problem. They enlarge and thicken the nail and make it look very "woody". However, it will not spread to the rest of the body. I usually tell patients to avoid treatment unless it really bothers them cosmetically .
