Purpura Outbreaks [posted

Question: For the last 25 yrs I've been getting outbreaks of purpura. sometimes is
just a few little spot other times it is a lot. I haven't been sick and am in pretty good
health. I am very fair and bruise pretty easily would taking vicodin cause these outbreaks
because recently I've been taking this for severe osteoporosis if you could e-mail me I
would really appreciate it.
Answer: Vicodin wouldn't;but, this needs to be evaluated more fully.
Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura

Question: I was diagnosed with ITP a few days ago. I'm not really too sure what it
is. I know it's something to do with white platelets being ineffective.
Answer: ITP stands for Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura. This is a disease where antibodies from your body attack the platelets. This is usually triggered after a viral illness. This is usually seen in children. Adults can get chronic ITP - again auto-immune, but not triggered by an infectious process. The antibodies on the platelets are seen as foreign and attacked by your immune system. Treatment focuses on decreasing the immune system by use of steroids, occasionally spleenectomy depending on the severity of the problem.
