Question: Can you give me information on the drug called Lamictal?
Answer: Lamictal is an anti-seizure made by glaxo-wellcome. It is a drug unrelated to other anti seizure medications and its mode of action is unknown. It appears to have some effect on serotonin binders in the brain and is an inhibitor of foliate metabolism. There have been some unusual, but serious side effects including red cell aplasia, sudden death and rash, which have lead to hospitalization. It is a class C pregnancy drug. Usual side effects are headache, hot flashes, nausea, dizziness, somnolence and ataxia. Rhinitis is also seen on occasion, double vision, blurred vision and skin rash.
