Naprelan and Light Flashes [posted 7/30/98]
Question: I have been taking Naprelan for about 6 months and I am experiencing flashes of light so bright I can hardly see. They don't last long. I'm wondering if this could be caused by this drug.

Answer: I suppose, but it sounds like retinal or vitreal detachment. Not usually due to the Naprelan. However, I would stop the drug and see if it abates. You should see you eye doctor.

Question: I went to my primary care physician with only two complaints. 1) I'd had a low grade fever for about a month (never over 102 degrees) 2) an occasional headache with it. No other symptoms. He gave me a 10 day sample supply of Naprelan. When I looked it up, it says its for arthritis and rheumatism. I have neither of those. Is there some reason he told me to take these samples that isn't obvious to the layman?

Answer: I'm not familiar with Naprelan unless it is a brand name for Naprosyn. However, it is probably a Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory. These drugs are used for a variety of inflammatory conditions(including arthritis) since other than steroids, there is no alternative. He is giving you the anti-inflammatory to decrease the cause of the fever.
