Answer: Pseudoephedrine is a drug which is similar in action to ephedrine. Ephedrine is one component of adrenaline, which is a complex hormone produced by your adrenal gland under fight/flight types of stress. This drug will speed up your heart (sometimes to the point of too fast or irregular), increase your ability to breathe, dilate your eyes, increase your blood pressure and a host of other minor actions. It is mainly to accelerate your strength, reflexes and ability to respond to an emergency situation. Pseudoephedrine is usually used topically in nose sprays or in antihistamines to dilate the nose and to fight the sedative properties of most antihistamines.
