Question: Two questions about Praziquantel: 1.) How much is
it? 2.) Is it worth considering taking some with me when I go on an expedition to
Tanzania? Or is the incubation period long enough that I by the time I was displaying
symptoms, I would be back in the UK, anyway (I’m out there for a month). Thanks!
Answer: Cost varies widely , check with your pharmacy. As to
effectiveness. It is effective if taken while you are in endemic areas. You would need to
take it while in Tanzania to be effective/ preventive.
Praziquantel
Question: How can I purchase Praziquantel without doctor prescription? Is a market
for this medicine in this country? How should this medication be taken for a 7 year old
boy?
Answer: You can’t purchase it without a prescription. Usual side effects are
headaches, malaise, abdominal discomfort and occasional temperature. In general, it is
well tolerated.
