Remeron Concerns [posted

Question: I have been taking effexor and remeron since April.I have had trouble
with nausea, insomnia, digestional disturbaces, and very cold hands at time. After telling
my doctor this he lowered the dosage from 300mg to 225mg on the effexor and told me to
take it on the morning.I take 7.5mg of remeron before bed.Two weeks after lowering the
dosage I am still having trouble. I have tried to contact my doctor, but nobody has yet to
return my calls. I am really concerned about the digestive problems and very soft stools.
Is this the medication's side effect? I have had 2 GI studies done and both are
negative.What action would you take.
Answer: It's the meds. Try decreasing the Remeron;but, check with your md.

Question: Please give me information about "REMERON"
Answer: Remeron(mirtazapine) is an tetracyclic antidepressant. It is unrelated
to the SRI class(prozac etc). Its mechanism of action is not currently known. Side effects
include sedation, vertigo, elevated liver functions and changes in white blood cell counts.
It is a class C pregnancy drug. The biggest limitation to its use is the somnulence that
patients develop. It needs occasional monitoring of liver function tests and white counts.
