Stadol
Question: My doctor has recently changed by pain medication to stadol spray after nearly one month of ordering lortab 7.5. The lortab was working fine (1 or 2 tablets 4-6 hours), and was really helping. What is stadol and why would the doctor order the change?

Answer: Stadol (butorphanol tartrate) is a mixture of k-opioid receptor agonist and mixed m-opioid agonist-antagonists. This differs somewhat from morphine in its antagonist activity, but is still an opioid. The spray is faster acting than is a pill. Otherwise I don't think there is major difference. You'd need to ask him/her the reason for the switch.
