Zantac Syrup
Question: My ten-week old baby was prescribed 0.7 CC Zantac syrup twice a day for a reflux problem. I was interested in finding out if there are any side-effects from this medication and if it's appropriate for a child this age.
Answer: Zantac (rantidine) is a drug which belongs to the group called H2 Blockers. These are common drugs and have been available since about 1975. They have such minimal side effects that they are available over the counter without a prescription. I know of no specific problem with children. I do know that chronic reflux will cause major problems in his later life if not properly treated.
