Question: what is (adapax) diet pill and its side affects, should a doctor prescribe this pill to a 21 yr old that weights 136pds and is 5'5', and is not fat by no means, need help with this drug. is it legal or what. need to put a stop to this drug. costs the girls a 100.00 avisit and they have to keep going back once a month. and what is the side effects, please reply.thanks terri

Answer: Adipex is a brand name for phentermine. This is part of the diet combination that was used so effectively with phen-fen. However, the fen part of it did have occasional cardiac valve problems which resulted in it being taken off the market and ongoing testing. There is a pending class action suit on patients who took this by the way. Phentermine by itself is only mildly effective in weight loss, most physicians have seen little help. It is a sympathomimetic amine with similar activity to amphetamines. It is only useful for 3-4 weeks as an adjunct to weight loss and of little/no effect after the first month(like the other amphetamines).
