Certazidine
Question: Could you please, give me information on the drug "certazidine". My husband is in the hospital with chronic osteomyelitis. And is also receiving "vancomycin". Any information would be helpful.
Answer: I suspect you are looking for ceftazidine(ceftaz). This is a semi-synthetic broad spectrum beta-lactamase antibiotic which belongs to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics. It is available only in IV or IM formulations. Since it is effective against a variety of antibiotics, it is used to treat many systemic infections ranging from respiratory infections to infected joints and heart valves. Like the penicillin like and cephalosporin like drugs it is prone to causing allergic rashes, colitis and diarrhea, nausea and other minor problems.
