Question: I have a 8mth baby with severe eczema and have been given hydrocortizone (1%) to manage outbreak. What are the side effects associated with cortizone ? are there any alternatives ?
Answer: There can be systemic absorption and suppression of the adrenal glands. But, this would take a lot of medication over a lot of skin for a long time. Effectively , there are few risks. Topical caladryl lotion may be effective, but generally steroids are the only effective answer.
