Question: My son contracted mulloscum contagiosom 4 months ago. He has put tretinoin cream on it as well as taken tagament 2 times a day to boost his amune system. but it keeps reoccuring in other areas of his body. He has never had sex. The rash began under his armpit, then down his arm and now under his chin. He is 15 years old. How can we get rid of it?
Answer: This is usually spread by contact, my son got his from wearing used hockey pads. This is caused by a poxvirus and there really is no specific treatment. The usual method is to irritate the skin and “turn on” the immune system. This can be done with any of several agents, tretinoin cream, OTC wart cream, salicylate cream(available OTC) etc. Also, ensure that he is no in contact with the causal agent.(Bodies, clothes, equipment etc.) To prevent reinfection.
