Continuous Ambulatory PD
Question: I recently began working with a client on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis, with IDDM. My client has reduced mobility and is beginning to develop a pressure sore. My question is, what drug(s) would you recommend to control chronic pain without contributing to constipation or other adverse effects for clients with renal failure on peritoneal dialysis?
Answer: For systemic pain acetaminophen. Local pain like ulcers has several options. Removing the pressure is first, second is local ice or heat, local xylocaine is helpful also. Local capsaicin cream is useful for arthritis(burns in open wounds).
