Thyroid and Urticaria

Question: A friend of mine has had severe urticaria (welts over entire body) the last two years (summer & fall only)which required treatment with steroids and other medications. She now tells me she is much more nervous and irritable and has a swelling in her neck in the area of the left side of the Thyroid gland. She has not seen her doctor yet for the recent symptoms, but last year her Thyroid tests were normal. She does not have welts now. Can these problems be connected?

Answer: I would have difficulty tying the two together. This is especially true if her thyroid tests were normal.
