Cozaar Side Effects
Question: Please give me the side effects of cozaar. Itís a prescription a friend is taking for high blood pressure of 150/100. She's 27 years old.
Answer: Very few, usually. Kidney function should be checked on an occasional basis. There are several listed in the Physicians Desk Reference, but in my experience patients usually don't know that they are taking the medication. There are reports of rashes and renal decline, but both are very uncommon.
Cozaar
Question: Cozaar is a new drug for high blood pressure. My physician has no information on any side effects. Please provide any side effect information. I have noticed that I have developed stomach problems since starting to take Cozaar and would like to known, if in fact, the drug is responsible.
Answer: Cozaar is a relatively new release in the class of ACE inhibitors (angio-tensin converting enzyme). The major advantage is the lack of cough with this drug versus the usual ACE inhibitor. The cough is one of the most bothersome side effects and one of the major reasons that people discontinue the drug. This class in general has few side effects and is its major advantages over other classes of drugs. Other side effects can be diarrhea(2.4%), dizziness(3.5%), nausea and dyspepsia(1.3%), and myalgia(1.0%). Even though the number of patients with side effects is small, if you are the 1% the side effects may cause discontinuation of the drug.
