Leukemia Treatment
Question: My cousin was diagnosed four months ago with Chronic Mylogenous Leukemia. He has recently been told of a compound called dimethyl sulfoxide which is apparently useful in treating leukemia cells by causing them to revert to normal or benign cells. He has been told that he cannot obtain this “alternative” therapy because it has not yet been approved. He has also been told that the large pharmaceutical companies are to blame because this drug offers a cure and therefore they would lose their other drug business such as interferon – a costly drug which he is now taking. While I understand his anxiexty and therefore, his vulnerability to believe what he is being told, I cannot believe that those working in pharmaceutical companies have not been touched either directly or indirectly by cancer and therefore, why would they do such an unconscionable thing. Having said all that, I would appreciate it if you have any knowledge of this drug and its effectiveness.
Answer:It always amazes me how many deep conspiracies are present in the world to deprive the population of easy cures, cheap gasoline, etc. While I can’t categorically say that such an attempt doesn’t exist, common sense would dictate that an easy cure of an otherwise fatal disease would be published somewhere.
