Question: I have been taking Zestril tab 10mg since early 1998, I also take estratab 0.625 mg, I take vit E, C, and calcium with magnesium and zinc daily. I have been on hormone replacement for ten years, what should I know about this combination, and what are the long term effects. I am a little nervous at this point, because my husband was on Propulsid and Prilosec twice a day since 1996,for the treatment of a Hiatal Hernie/Gerd, he died suddenly this past year at 58 after being given a clean bill of health. Now we are finding out this drug has had some adverse effects. So I have become a little cautious regarding my drugs, I would rather just stop taking everything. Any input would be grateful. Thank you.
Answer: There is no obvious long term toxicity with any of these. Also, the short term risks seem minimal. As to the propulsid, the cardiac arrthymias were common knowledge for years of using the drug prior to it’s been removed from the market. This is not the case with any of your medications.

Question: I HAVE BEEN TAKING ESTRATAB ESTROGEN REPLACEMENT. MY HOM NOW WANTS TO CHANGE TO PREMARIN. THEY STATE THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IN THE MEDICATION IS THAT ESTRATAB CONTAINS CONJUGATED ESTROGENS AND THAT PREMARIN CONTAINS ESTERIFIED ESTROGEN. HOWEVER, THEY WANT ME TO REPORT TO MY DOCTOR WHETHER OR NOT I EXPERIENCE ANY BLEEDING OR UNUSUAL SYMPTOMS AFTER STARTING THIS DIFFERENT MEDICATION. THEY ALSO INDICATE THIS IS A CHEAPER BRAND. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THESE TWO KINDS OF MEDICATION? WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF BOTH? THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE.
Answer: Clinically not a whole lot. But everyone has different metabolism since they are structurally different. The side effects should be the same, however, you’ll need to try it to see.
