Question: For about two months, I have had a slight pain in the right side of my neck. My mother said it felt like a swollen gland. Anyway, I just realized that for the past two months I have been having Slim-Fast for breakfast and lunch (trying to lose a few pounds), each can providing 35% of daily iodine. Then I take a multivitamin which provides 100% of the daily iodine. Is it possible that this (170%) much iodine is causing the dull pain in my neck? Is iodine toxic and can it build up in the system? Thanks.

Answer: Iodine can shut down your thyroid, but not cause these problems.
