Question: I am a 56 yr. old lady who had a total hysterectomy at aged 44. I have taken Ogen 1.25 for 12 yrs.I chose Ogen because it is well-tolerated with no nausea…cannot use the patch due to skin sensitivity.Ihave had no UTI’s or other problems..my lab reports are normal with cholesteral on the high side but ratio of good/bad cholesteral very good. blood pressure on the high end of normal. 5 years ago had a stereo biop.of thickened area in right breast…results were absolutely normal…no tissue changes whatsoever.(retired rad.tech…viewed films myself also)my former ob/gyn strongly suggests I rely on *natural* products only and eliminate estrogen.I have a family history of osteoporosis…mother and 2 aunts…2 are bedridden and other broken hip…..my father died at 50 from mci….I am 50 lbs overweight and i do have fluid rentention, but otherwise am healthy…given my family history and the hysterectomy, i feel it appropiate to take estrogen forever. If I were to reduce the dosage by half..would I still be protected against osteoporosis? i am extremely concerned about this.there is no intermediate reduction i can take since they discontinued the .9 dose

Answer: Did he/she discuss reloxifen? This would lower cardiovascular risk and is indicated for osteoporosis, it will not give vaginal lubrication and your libido my be lower. But, an option. However, if you do mammnograms regularly and monthly breast exams, I don’t see the problem.
