Pandel Cream [posted 7/17/98]
Question: I took my 10 year old daughter to the pediatrician for several dry patches of skin on her face. The doctor told me it was eczema and gave several samples of Pandel Cream to “apply sparingly”
on the dry patches twice a day. Pandel Cream (Hydrocortisone buteprate manufactured by Savage Industries) should not be used on Children under the age of 18 and should not be used on the face. Who exactly this should be given to?
Answer: Steroid creams applied in high strength or for long periods of time can atrophy subcutaneous
fat. Since the SQ fat is necessary to establish the contours of the face, it can make areas of the
face look weird. This is the limitation on the face and the age limitation. In fact, small areas for
short times with small concentrations don’t produce this problem.
