Question: My doctor has given me several prescriptions for bronchial spasms…one being Proventil-HFA. I informed him beforehand that I was allergic to sulfa. But I read on the container that Proventil is albuterol sulfate. Should I be using this form of medicine?

Answer: Not the drug you are allergic to. Sulfas are antibiotics. Theorectically this could be a problem, but I’ve never seen a cross reaction here.
