Question: Why is Quinine prescribed for muscle cramps? What other drug does Quinine conflict with? What causes Leg cramps?
Answer: It is used because if often works and few other things do work. It can effect some cardiac medications( in high doses affects cardiac conduction-not at the doses for muscle cramps) and occasionally causes a low blood sugar in susceptible individuals. Occasional individuals have toxicity from the drug at very low levels, this is experienced as flushing, itching, skin rashes, fever, nausea and ringing in the ears.
