Question: What can you tell me about the drug ReVia? I UNDERSTAND IT IS USED TO HELP OVERCOME DRUG AND ALCOHOL ADDICTIONS? WHAT TYPE OF DR. WOULD PRESCRIBE THIS TYPE OF TREATMENT?
Answer: Revia is the brand name for naltrexone. This is a opiod antagonist and blocks the receptors in the body that morphine attachs to, thus blocking the effects of morphine. It is used in drug dependence programs to block the effect of injected narcotics. That is while using it, one would not get the *high* of the narcotic, thus reducing the reason to shoot narcotics. These are usually used in comprehensive drug treatment facilities. Most mds in usual practice modes don’t use this drug, drug treatment centers usually do.
