Question: On 10/96 i had a heart attack and three stents were placed in the right coronary artery in a row and the circumflex has about 50 % block.My hdl was 38 and ldl 132 total 224 ,My question is, I have been depressed and tired ,just do not feel like doing anything, so my primary care put me on effexor 75mg and after about two weeks i feel some better, then i had my appointment with my heart Dr. and he told me to stop the effexor and the toprol xl100, and put me on tiazac 180mg, I now feel light headed and still fatique and also have had a headache since, is the med. causing this and could i stop taking the tiazac, i would like to stop all med.
Answer: Your cardiologist is assuming that the depression is due to the beta blocker effect of the Toprol. This is certainly possible and I’d rather see if the depression would vanish off the beta blockers rather than committing you to antidepressants. As far as the light headedness goes, check your blood pressure lying and standing. If it falls more than 10 systolic, the dosage is a little high. Tiazac is best taken at night as it has a peak about 6-8 hours after taking it. Ensure you are not taking it in the a.m.
