Seizures
Question: Can heavy use of Vick’s Vaporub inserted into the nose cause seizures? My father has had seizures for about 10 years with many tests, non of which rendered a cause for his seizures. His dilantin level can be low or high or WNL and he will still have seizures. He has used Vick’s salve all his 92 years and frequently uses it heavily by placing a large gob of it into his nose. (He has always had severe sinus problems) His last two seizures followed use of this product after not having used it for several months. Could there be a connection?
Answer: Potentially, any stimulus can initiate a seizure. In practicality, rarely do any stimuli other than flashing lights initiate a seizure. However, there are reports of sounds, lights, smells, etc. initiating seizures. I doubt that his Vaporub is the cause. However, hold it for two months and see.
