Question: I have a small thing but big problem. It is “aphtha” in my mouth and on my tongue. I have it very often and it lasts about 2 weeks. Actually it is not just one. Sometimes there are four or five. I never eat, and it is hard to speak. If you kindly suggest some thing for my above problem I will be very thankful.
Answer: Apthous ulcers in the mouth are a chronic problem in some people. These can he caused by recurrent viruses(particularly herpes), different collagen vascular diseases, or usually unknown causes. It would be useful to culture an ulcer-if it is herpes treatment for herpes can be very effective. If no agent can be demonstrated, local treatment with benadryl or viscous xylocaine is helpful in treating the pain.
