Gray hair
Question: I recently found about 20 gray hairs on the head of my 5.5 year-old daughter. They are in one general
location, but aren’t so clustered as to be birthmark or injury-related.
My husband and I are in our mid-thirties, and we have our share of gray, but
this is ridiculous! Is this a sign of something serious? Should we be worried?
It seems silly to go in to our family doctor for something like this, and
my search of the literature turned up nothing.
Answer: If it is not generalized it probably is of no concern. However, she should have her thyroid function checked to be safe. Also, if she has any hair loss, either generalized or patchy, this needs an immediate physician visit.
