Question: What are the side effects of the drug dicyclomine?
Answer: Dicyclomine is sold under the brand name Bentyl. It is mainly used as an antispasmodic and for irritable bowel. It generally is used to slow bowel motility due to its anticholinergic activity. This also produces side effects of dry mouth, vertigo, blurred vision, nausea, and drowsiness.

Question: I am searching for information about Dicyclomine. I am mostly interested
in side effects. What I can do to help the side effects? Is there
a danger with taking this drug and prozac together? I suffer from
problems associated with irritable bowel, but these problems include
pain, nausea, constipation and diarrhea (sometimes severe diarrhea).
Will this drug help these problems? My doctor prescribed it to me, and
the paperwork I got with it was very vague. It did mention how this drug
may cause nausea and constipation, so I was curious if this drug is right
for me.
Answer: Many GI specialists are using SRI antidepressants in treating irritable bowel with some success. There is no problem mixing the dicyclomine and the prozac (at least with current thoughts/research). Side effects of dicyclomine include urinary hesitancy, blurred vision, increased intraocular pressure (to avoid with a history of glaucoma), dry mouth, tachycardia or palpitations, and dyspnea.
