Polymixin B and Bacitracin
Question:Is polymixin B and Bacitracin stable in an irrigation
solution. Also, is there any drug interaction between the
two?
Answer:Polymixin is an antifungal agent used mainly in topical creams and ointments. It was found being produced by Bacillus polymyxa and is used clinically against gram negative organisms and some fungal elements. It is occasionally used in bowel regiments since it is not absorbed into the body and occasionally for systemic infections. Bacitracin was found being produced by Bacillus subtilis and is also an antibacterial agent. These agents have no side effects or interactions when used in external or topical ointments and are combined in several products sold by prescription.
