Question: What are the methods of relief and healing from TMJ syndrome?
Answer: TMJ Syndrome is the accronym for Temporal-Mandibular-Joint Syndrome. This is clinically seen as pain over the TMJ joint which is located just forward of the ear-about 3/4″. TMJ Syndrome can he due to many causes. In general, it has to do with misalignment of the jaw causing excessive pressure on this joint. Grinding ones teeth at night or excessive pressure in chewing will also cause this syndrome. Consequently, treatment is aimed at correct alignment of the teeth or preventing the excessive pressure generation necessary to inflame this joint. Different dental appliances-occasionally realigning ones jaw or teeth is the usual treatment for this syndrome.
