Toilet seats
Question: I travel a lot in my job and on many occasions use public toilets. Many times I have heard on radio shows that you can’t get (or catch) a disease from a toilet seat. What type of disease can you catch from using an “unclean” toilet seat? Are there different worries for females as opposed to males?
Answer: As long as there are no ulcers or cuts on your buttocks there is no risk of transmissible
disease. Cuts and ulcers raise the possibility of transmission. However, most bacteria and
viruses have difficulty sustaining in dry environments out of the body. you have
significantly more risk with someone sneezing in a room than from a toilet seat. There is no
difference between male and female.
