Vantin
Question: The use of “VANTIN” and the associated dosages.
Answer: Vantin is the brand name for Cefpodoxime, which is in the cephalosporin class of antibiotics. Like all cephalosporins, it is relatively resistant to beta-lactamase enzymes produced by bacteria. These enzymes are produced to destroy penicillin and penicillin like antibiotics and are one of the causes of penicillin resistance in different bacteria. With its broad activity against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria, this class of antibiotics is used in multiple clinical settings. It is commonly used in respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, pelvic and sexually transmitted diseases and skin infections. It is availible in liquid suspension and tablets(100 and 200mg). The dose varies with the type of infection and weight of the patient, but should rarely be above 400 mg twice a day.
